Malaria continues to kill hundreds of thousands of young children each year and is a significant risk for travelers and visitors in large areas of Africa, South America, and Asia. This session will review the risks of malaria, the clinical presentations of malaria, diagnostic methods, treatment options, and preventive interventions. This information will help participants protect themselves from malaria while also preventing and treating malaria in the populations they serve.

Dr. Jason O’Grady will be joining the speaker for this presentation.

Objectives

1. describe the risks of malaria in various geographic areas
2. explain the presentations, diagnosis, and clinical management of patients with malaria
3. identify helpful interventions to prevent malaria when traveling through and residing in malaria-endemic regions
