In March 2017 I was able to experience one of the most memorable events in my life and was privileged with the opportunity to represent Sullivan University College of Pharmacy and chaperone 36 AMAZING pharmacy and physician assistant students along with Dr. Sarah Raake, and Sports Reach, Intl. on a Medical Mission trip in Belize.

The preparation was enormous for the event and could not have been accomplished without generous donations from individuals, hospitals, Supplies Over Seas (SOS), support, thoughts, and prayers from many over the past year as we prepared for this event. Additionally, I wanted to share some highlights from the trip and from our local friend in Belize, Nadir.

“Medical Fairs were conducted at three locations in Belize City, and at the Belize Central Prison. I was filled with joy to see the happy faces of patients from some of the less fortunate areas of Belize City. The prison was the main highlight, I was amazed to see the humanity, appreciation and gratitude that the prisoners had towards the medical team (with a few exceptions). This time we spent two days at the prison, unlike last year’s one day. I helped out translating for Spanish speaking patients, took pictures and even got a chance to try out the EKG Machine (how cool is that https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v8/f4c/1/16/1f642.png:)). No one wants to be in prison, especially at the Belize Central Prison, prison life is near, if not, inhumane. In the three days of clinic over 500+ patients were treated and over $10,000 USD of medical equipment was donated. We also stopped at the Kings Children’s Home, to play with the kids and their newly delivered toys from the medical team. As per usual the kids were full of life as they enjoyed our company. It was a wonderful week, learning, helping and making great friendships. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for the hard work of the Medical Team, and for the privilege of sticking around. Thank you all so much for your incredible work! You all are a blessing to my country! These are moments I will forever cherish for the rest of my life!” ~Nadir
