In the half-century since Alma-Ata, many host nations have made significant strides in providing clinical care and healthcare professional education to their populations. The needs have changed. Dr Wendler will suggest that knowledge-generation and -dissemination from mission hospitals in the "final kilometer" represents a persistent gap and that research as mission may prove to be the next wave in cross-cultural disciple-making via healthcare.
