Overview

The Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH) Annual Conference attracts Christian global health professionals and students from across the globe who share CCIH's mission of promoting global health and wholeness from a Christian perspective.

The theme of this year's CCIH conference is Gender, Health and Development: A Christian Perspective, examining how Christian organizations are actively addressing problems of inequities that contribute to disease, disability and death, not just for women, but also for children.

Over the years, many Christian organizations working in international health have taken leading roles in addressing gender issues. But traditional cultural beliefs and values still exist that keep women in subservient roles preventing them from fully caring for their health and the health of their families. Practices such as domestic violence, early marriage, polygamy, limited access to family planning services, and the inability to make health decisions for their families are evidence of this inequity.

The CCIH 2013 Annual Conference will encourage dialogue on how to bring cultural norms and values relating to gender relations closer to health and wholeness for all.
