My trip to Kenya was one I will never forget...

I was incredibly blessed with the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Tonya Hawthorne. This experience helped not only to broaden my medical knowledge, but also to provide for people who were truly in need. I will never forget the looks on their faces when they received medical attention and the joy I experienced knowing I was a part of something much larger than myself. There is so much need in the area we were working in. I for one have a personal experience regarding "bush medicine". One day in a remote village we were playing with the local children a game called lions and zebras. In the game the children are the zebras and I ( the slow white mzungu) was the lion. While playing the game I stepped into a hole and severely sprained my ankle. Because there were no x-ray machines in the clinic we drove 2 and a half hours on a severely bumpy dirt road before we were finally able to get an x-ray. It was a very painful ride and made me realize how we take healthcare in the United States for granted.

These people out in the bush have no electricity, no running water, none of these luxuries we take for granted. Living amongst these people is an experience you can't put a price on. Dr. Tonya is in need of prayer and funding to help keep the clinic up and continue touching many lives. Please keep the New Frontiers Health Force in your prayers.

God Bless,
Kyle Singletary
