Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

Those words are true for Reverend Sister Edith Aguh. She founded Divine Grace Medical Missionaries in 2008 with $200 and a dream of making a difference in the lives of as many people as possible. Sister Edith set up the small nonprofit organization and worked to find partners who had similar goals and objectives, and were willing to donate medications and services that would help to accomplish those goals. Her dream of effecting social change was becoming reality.

Sister Edith’s personal goal has always been to help empower people, facilitating self-sufficiency through education, health, and economic development.

Sister Edith has been personally impacted by the struggle of individuals to achieve success in her community and abroad. She began to look for methods that advance innovative and sustainable solutions to significant global and community health problems. She found that in order to achieve her goals, collaborative approaches to community problems were necessary.

In 2011, Sister Edith’s small non-profit became a 501©(3) organization and is on its way to becoming one of Houston's premier community outreach and service organizations.

The number of lives that have been transformed because of Sister Edith and her wonderful staff and volunteers is now in the tens of thousands.

Divine Grace has provides programs and classes in the areas of Vocational Health, Education, Human Services, Mental Health, Women’s Empowerment, Workforce Development, Youth, Children, Volunteer Services, and International Services.

Over 300 women have completed our healthcare training and vocational training classes, and have gone on to find employment.

The mission of Divine Grace Medical Missionaries, Inc. is to strengthen the capacity of low-income families in the Houston metropolitan area to become self- sufficient through a long-term model of programs and services specifically designed to: (1) impact and offset poverty and hunger; and (2) influence and counteract intergenerational behavior in order to achieve successful and healthy lives. We are committed to addressing these issues through programs that focus on: (1) literacy and education; (2) health and wellness; (3) health care training, (4) skill acquisition, and; (5) job training.

Additionally, our mission involves responding to disasters throughout Houston, Nigeria, Haiti, and the Phillipines, providing medicine, medical supplies, and health care.

Through our medical missions, we have provided over 10,000 individuals with free medication, hygiene, and other supplies throughout the United States and the world.

We were present and active during the most recent Ebola outbreak in Africa, donating time, medication, and supplies.

After the kidnapping of over 200 school children in Nigeria by Boca Horan, Sister Edith and others from Divine Grace were on the front lines, protesting against the abductions in Nigeria.

Sister Edith’s plans for the future are considerable and significant! Divine Grace recently moved into new offices at 10600 Fondren Rd. in southwest Houston. Our plan is to purchase the entire facility so that we will have ample room for our current programs and activities and will be able to expand them going forward. In addition to housing our current and expanded programs, we will open a shelter for women and children, which will include a daycare for the children and office space for the women to start businesses, in effect, becoming entrepreneurs. We are just now kicking off our capital campaign to make the purchase and begin renovations.

Because of her hard work and dedication, Sister Edith’s work truly is transforming lives.

We invite the public to come by and see what we have to offer. Most of our classes are ongoing and you may begin at any time. We look forward to meeting you soon.

We are asking for your help so that we can continue our good works. To make a donation, you can mail a check to 10600 Fondren Rd., Suite 104 in southwest Houston.

Please visit our facilities any time. Everyone is welcome!
