I had never participated in an international mission trip, so I didn't really know what to expect. However, as with any mission trip, the experience will always be different. Each person who participates in the trip contributes their own spiritual experiences and personality, making each trip unique.

Overall, the trip had a profound impact on my spirituality. I believe that we were especially blessed with many leaders who allowed us to all be open and let change happen in our hearts. The Holy Spirit was definitely moving through all of us each and every day. There was proof of this with the testimonies that were shared and our deep appreciation and empathy with each testimony. All of the stories shared had a particular message, which allowed us to all have a deeper connection and trust with one another.

I have formed lifelong relationships with not only the people from the United States, but also with several interpreters from Nicaragua. As a pharmacy student, I have learned very quickly that we will not be able to cure most of our patients. We don’t have all the answers, but we can care for our patients and ease their way the best way we know how. When we went to Nicaragua as medical professionals, we knew we were not going to be able to cure most of the people there. However, our number one goal was to love them through the love that has been shown to us through our Lord. Loving others is the greatest way to share the Gospel, because in many instances, action speaks louder than words.

“Jesus was gripped with a compassion so overwhelming that His heart churned and His stomach wrenched. It was out of compassion and love for the crowds that He told His disciples to pray for more workers to join them in touching those who needed to be touched, loved, and redeemed.” (Tracie Miles, Your Life Still Counts, p. 251-252).
