My Missions Experiences
Dr. Tom Thacher attended medical school at the University of Utah and completed his family medicine training in Ventura, California. After residency in 1987, he and his family headed to the West African country of Nigeria, where they worked with Campus Crusade for Christ for nearly 20 years. During his early years in Nigeria, Dr. Thacher trained community health evangelists, who taught preventive health and shared Christ in rural villages. Later, he founded the Family Medicine Department at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. While in Nigeria, he developed a research interest in nutritional rickets, and he continues to be involved in international health and research related to vitamin D, calcium, and rickets. He joined the staff of Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in 2007.
