Not exactly the kind of picture you were expecting to see, right?  Nothing about it says “Merry Christmas”. This man was attacked by a bear in a remote village in Asia. It’s not that he doesn’t have insurance or that the line was too long at the Urgent Care.  In his little area of the world, there is no medical facility, not one doctor.

A little perspective please. We could certainly use it this holiday season.

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let’s ask God to help us keep a right perspective. How can we best celebrate the One who came down from the splendor of heaven to dwell among us?

Instead of spending this sacred time pursuing the perfect gift, let’s spend it pursuing The Perfect Gift. Let’s be rooted in His Word, His Sovereignty and His Grace. Let’s get after the things that matter because we can do nothing less when we ponder the goodness of God in our lives.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God, Hebrews 12:2.

And as we seek this right perspective, may we also be thankful. Thankful for the blessings that surround us. Blessings that we take for granted: heat in the winter, food on the table, water to drink, indoor plumbing, oh, and a place to go when we get attacked by a bear.

That man... in the remote village in Asia, he went to the only person he thought might be able to help him. He went to a Christ follower who had been trained to extract teeth by a dental team that came several years ago from a small ministry in Kentucky.

What we do here matters. Only because God takes our pitiful offering and turns it into more than we could ever ask or imagine. Join us in this work. It is a privilege.
