Gertrude Kawengo is aged 11; she is in grade 3 at Malokota, Before the garden, Gertrude had no access to a balanced diet. She used to eat once per day. As a result Gertrude failed to concentrate at school. On top of that she never used to play with her friends because she had no energy. Gertrude used to get sick often because she was lacking many nutrients in her body.
The CBO Care Workers noticed her health problems and registered her to be part of the garden vegetable recipients. The garden has different vegetables which are supplied to the orphaned, vulnerable, aged and the widows. Gertrude has been supplied with vegetables from the garden and ever since her life has changed. She is growing fat and she now gets some nutrients from the vegetables .All the illness Gertrude encounter have gone. She is healthy looking. She now concentrates at school and she enjoys playing with her friends. At least she can even eat 3 times per day.
“Kennedy Pwalala is aged 11 and doing grade three at Malokota Community School. Kennedy is one of the children who have benefitted a lot from the garden. Before the garden, Kennedy was going through a lot of health problems. He used to eat an unbalanced diet - without vegetables. He had serious skin rashes and persistent headaches without knowing why. He was pale due to lack of vitamins and irons. The Care Workers noticed his ill health and started supporting him with different types of fresh vegetables. This made the world of difference to him and uplifted his health. The vegetables have brought a healing process and he no longer has skin rashes or headaches. He really enjoys his meals!
“At the orphanage each student is given a little plot and allowed/encouraged to tend it. It was very neat to see the young people doing this. They have put a little name placard by their plot.”
