Our Teach to Transform team was partnering with Hopeful Hearts to serve a community in the mountains about a 2-3 hour bus ride from Kalamyo, in Chin State Myanmar. They told us they had not seen non-Asian individuals for thirty years. Now with our present model, we only do clinics when we are teaching students so they get experience. However, before this model was implemented we worked in a church there, did a clinic and prayed with the people. I helped in the pharmacy and educated the patients how to take thier medicine. One baby had an ear ache and I was telling the mom how to mix the ampicillin, draw it up in a syringe and give it to the baby. She looked so perplexed that I asked what was the matter and she asked how all the medicine would fit in the baby's ear. To say I was shocked, was an understatement. But, God took over and instead of something really lame, I said, "That is such a good question." Then I explained it was to be taken orally. It never occurred to me that someone would think of putting it in the ear canal. Our transportation was another story. We took a bus that had a flat tire on the way up the mountain and also the transmission went out. Our drivers were very good and they repaired both in no time at all. On the way down the mountain, we had the transmission go out again. Then a little further down the mountain my husband had his elbow on the window next to our seat. As a motorcyclist went by on that side, this window--it was a big window-- on the bus flew out and smashed against the mountain side barely missing the motorcyclist. The bus driver kept right on going--never missed a beat. That was the most prayerful trip I have taken in a while. LOL We still laugh about that today. Where else can you serve God, grow spiritually and have so much fun than on one of our mission trips?

Enjoyed your story! Look forward to having similar experiences myself in a few months when I move there.
