JOHN BARNSHAW STORY

When people are dying every day from preventable diseases, how do you effectively reach them with your message? How would you do that if they are illiterate?
The message of healing, both from the ultimate disease, Sin, and from other medical diseases can be communicated through pictures and verbally.
Orality techniques are a valuable tool in the health care world and particularly in missions. My passion is to connect people with tools and resources that can help share their life-saving message.
Enter the Cube…
Along with a colleague from SIM, we attended a conference on HIV/AIDS at Rick Warren’s church and there we met some of the senior leadership from e3 Resources, developers of the EvangeCube.  Within a year, we developed the HIV/AIDS Cube.  Then at the GMHC in about 2010 we got the idea for the Malaria Cube from Steve Saint.
Modeled after the Evangecube, the Malaria Cube is a language neutral teaching tool that explains the key factors about getting Malaria and how to protect yourself and others from Malaria.
It was a privilege to be involved with the CDC in the development of the HIV/AIDS Cube and now the Malaria Cube.
Does it work?
Just last month at a conference in Ghana for medical missionaries involved with SIM ministries across Africa, I was showing the Cubes to several others when Dr. Jerry Brown from ELWA and the ECWA Director for Medical Services, a Nigerian medical doctor responsible for 84 healthcare facilities in Nigeria began asking about them. I then had the unique opportunity to demonstrate all the Cubes to both of them.  How cool!  The Director from ECWA is currently in the process of developing a proposal that would evaluate the effectiveness of the Malaria Cube. Once the proposal is completed, then about 100 Malaria Cubes will be sent to Nigeria for the field test across their 84 facilities.  We look forward to learning the results of the study which should be completed by the end of 2016.
To learn more about the Malaria Cube and other resources for reaching others with the life-giving message, please come Visit me at the 2015 GMHC at the SIM Booth. I would love to talk with you!
