Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal on April 25th, the unthinkable happened. A second quake, registering 7.3 hit Nepal on May 12. Thousands more have been injured and the death toll continues to rise.

The remote village of Harmi is home to our key ministry partner in the area. Reach Beyond and our local partner have been working with the people of Harmi since 2010 to bring hope and healing to a place where the name of Jesus has seldom been heard. We helped the community build a birthing centre and clinic, something they had longed for and needed for many years. We also provided training on pregnancy and birthing.

In February of 2015, the growing number of believers met for the first time as church—the very first church in the village. Today, the village lies in ruins. The radio station is destroyed. Virtually every home in Harmi is levelled or too dangerous to inhabit.

Following the first quake, roads and access to remote areas, like the village of Harmi were virtually non-existent. Now the infrastructure is even more damaged, making it even harder to get supplies and basic necessities to the people.

Please join us in praying for these precious people. Pray for their safety, for healing from their emotional and physical wounds. And pray that people in Harmi will put their trust in Jesus, the solid rock that cannot be shaken.

We have begun to work with the people of Harmi on the immense task of reconstruction. Following on from Reach Beyond's disaster response team which spent time there immediately after the first earthquake, further teams of engineers are now visiting to assess how infrastructure and homes in the area can be rebuilt. This rebuilding process will take months, perhaps years. But we must start now simply to help them restore some sense of stability in Jesus’ name.

Are you a medical professional with a heart to serve in cross-cultural situations around the world? Reach Beyond is looking for people like you, to go to places like Nepal and other countries where the name of Jesus Christ is seldom heard.
