I've been to South Sudan with Partners in Compassionate Care (PCC) twice. On my March 2015 trip, I had the opportunity to visit the leper colony near Malek, just outside of Bor. Our visit wasn't planned, so we just stayed long enough to greet people, share some scripture and pray. The chief of this village within a village said to us as we were getting ready to leave, "Tell people we are here and that we need medical care. The hospital in Bor is only for those who have feet. We cannot go there." That statement hit me right in the heart.

I am thrilled to hear the PCC has just opened a clinic in Malek. The clinic building was renovated by the village under the guidance of the local diocese. The clinical officer to staff the clinic comes from Memorial Christian Hospital (MCH) which was built by PCC in 2006. The clinic will be sustained through patient cost sharing. This clinic can now serve the village of Malek and the leper colony as well.

Both MCH in Werkok and the new clinic in Malek are in need of visiting teams to assist and teach the local staff. Those who go are sure to learn a lot too.
